popped my cherry - TRACK DAY!!!

it was a great weekend at the newest track in the west, reno-fernley. 2ish mile track with 2 fast straights. i took the front strait at 120mph and the back straight at around 105~110mph... plenty of pucker factor . i came out of this track day with one MAJOR impression, the 996 is a DAMN FINE CAR! found out that she pulls away from other 996s (thx to the mods i guess ), e46 m3s , runs circles around boxsters and can pull away from sl500 AMGs.. but maybe it's the driver . who needs a supercharger . held my own, still managed a 360 spin at 90 :O.

clik on the links for more pics:
reno-fernley track 1
reno-fernley track 2

damn fast car

another damn fast car

Nice Carlos, looks like a cool track too.

You should go to Infineon in August. Porsche Challenge will be there that weekend too.

BTW car looks awesome. Glad your mods are working out.

WOW 120MPH that's puttin' it down.

Do you have the Dunlop SP Races too? Those are sick.

Looks like a lot of fun. Why did you choose 555 as your number?

Is that an older M3 that you pulled away from? How do you like the cold air intake?

it's definitely a fast track, as the instructors agreed. hank watts' green 700HP early 911 and the 450HP orange 914 had reportedly taken the straight to 150mph.

never heard of porsche challenge. what group in august @ infineon/sears pt?

ya i use the dunlop ssr r compound tires. some have said it's not a true r compound, just a very very good street tire. very communicative and progressive break away. they look good for 500 miles of highway driving and ~4hours of track time.

no, i pulled away from a late model e46 m3. he had better lines through the twisties (better driver skill and he had 3~4 DEs) where i had better tires (helped me to stay away in the twisties) and maybe 330HP and 600 less pounds (it was a convertible m3) to pull on the straights.

the intake was and still is GREAT! at the track i was always between 4500 and redline so the intake/GIAC/headers helped the top end. a few times i was reaching for a lower gear and wish i had more bottom end torque though. supercharger?....

Isn't it great? My first was at buttonwillow and i had the same impression, just an absolute blast to see how the car handles and performs when the tires get slippery! I am looking forward to more! Congrats.....

What about this Porsche Challenge in August? Fill us in?

Yeah, it's August 6-7 at Infineon Raceway. There will be a bunch of different race groups so while you're resting from your DE you can watch actual races going on. It's through www.nasaproracing.com Click on the event calendar for northern California. Also, the guys from the Porsche Racing Challenge http://www.porscheracingclub.com/ will be out there so it will be really cool to see some full blown race Porsches tearing it up at Infineon. Pretty reasonable price too. They have ones sooner at Thunderhill but I figure where better to pop your cherry then Infineon. That way I can practice first on GT4 with my Ruf GT. It's 2 days but I'll probably only do one day. It would be fun to get a little crew together for it. Gotta put these Dunlop Rs to the test.
