Talking Tiptronic Mk2 996 Carrera K&N induction installed (with pics)

Hi all,

Thought I would just share my experiences in my installation today of the K&N cold air intake kit.

1) It took about 2.5 hours (I am no mechanic and have basic to moderate skills working on cars) - and would have taken a LOT longer without this video (thanks to the owner of this video if you are on these forums):

2) The actual supplied instructions are average at best, but occasionally good to back up the youtube video where there are no up-close shots - and the youtube is a manual car, not tiptronic so it is good to have the instructions to show what it should look like on a tiptronic car

3) The only real difference bertween tiptronic and manual is that the tiptronic has an air inlet valve that has to be installed onto the intake pipe. This requires drilling a 3/4inch hole in the new intake pipe - so make sure you have that size drill bit (pretty large). I have put a picture up below to show you the inlet valve that I mean.

4) Overall the main time is consumed with fiddly nuts and bolts. It is not a hard job whatsoever

5) Who knows if there are any power gains or not. It doesn't matter, because the sound of the intake under acceleration (foot down at least 50% on accelerator) is worth every last cent. The sound from outside and inside is pure porsche. I was thinking about doing an exhaust, but don't want to to ruin the natural sound. This intake just makes the sound perfect. It really is much louder than before and you can't really hear it in any videos, you need to experience it. Driving normally around the city and you wouldn't know there was anything modified....but put your foot down and it howls.

6) It looks great in the engine bay in my opinion

Any questions - feel free to ask. In all honesty as I said I can't tell if it has made power or freed the engine up to breathe a bit easier....it certainly feels much better....but it could just be psychological.

Either way, all factors considered I rate this as a must have mod!
