2000 996 IMS Issue on a 3.6L - your help

Hello mates I'm looking at purchasing 2000 996 3.6L that was converted to a race car. Im familiar with the Ims issue which inquired about when i was loooking at a 99 3.4 I'm wondering if it applies to the 3.4 and 3.6? Is there any thing I can do as far as ppi to protect myself or am I just rolling the dice. Car has 75000 miles and was a former Koni challenge car. Very sweet set up. All of your suggestions are appreciated.

The PPI is your friend. Once done, if clear, don't look back. If you're worried about the IMS either don't buy or get an extended maintenance plan for your peace of mind. Enjoy the hunt.

+ 1. On the positive side, the P-car made it to 75K, and the 2000 year model has a double row IMS which increase the probability of no IMS issue. My 99 is at 50K running strong with absolutely no leaks. Drive her like you stole her. Good luck.

Some MY2000 996's have single row and some have double row bearings. If it's a 3.6L then it's not the original engine.

CdlVancouver - Compression and leakdown were fine. The car was a former Koni car and like most was really beat up. It had multiple areas showing signs of oil leaks, stearing, axle, jrz shock problems. It was not ready to race and needed some fixing up .
