Semi-Solid Engine Mounts--First Impressions

Over the weekend I installed a set of WEVO semi-solid engine mounts. The install is easy---about 45 minutes. No complications, no hassles.

The promise was for a tighter feeling chassis, one with quicker left- right response, more predictable gear change precision and stability under braking.

So far I would say the above is true. The car feels very different; much tighter and responsive, also less forgiving. With the stock mounts you knew there was a big hunk of metal behind you. With the semi-solid mounts you feel the impact of that weight much more directly.

I would caution anyone who drives in a city (I do in San Francisco) that the semi-solid mounts make potholes a BIG deal. The overall ride is much harsher and you feel every bump, especially at low speeds.

I'm going to try the car at a PCA autocross and get out on a track soon and then decide if I'm going to keep them on.

Good information. Thanks for posting that. I've been considering them, or possibly the RS mounts.

Interesting and informative post. I'd love to hear your impressions after the autocross event. If it only takes 45 minutes, it might be something you could do in preparation for autocross, then switch back for daily driving. Does that sound realistic?

I suppose its realistic to change them in and out for track days. If you have the correct tools, ramps, a hydraulic jack to hold the motor, its pretty simple/

I recently installed the WEVO's in my 996 GT3. Not been on track yet but I felt the increase in vibration was minimal.

Agreed. No noticeable increase in vibration. In the 996 C2 the ride gets a bit harsher. Coming from a GT3, you're probably not feeling that
