Airbag Light (996)

I know this is a common issue...and the problem is with the sensor on the driver's seat belt harness...rather than getting it reset (three times over past 12 mos), is there a way to bypass the sensor...any comments, recommendations?

1999 C2

Thank you!

Well to answer your question w/o my .02 you can always pull the light..... That will by-pass.....sounds to me that you're looking to get rid of that little bright dot....

...or use the electrical tape fix. I have the same problem. The previous owner had it "fixed" several times according to the service records. I just ignore mine. It's tough to see that light when the top is down, except for the past few days since it has been raining pretty much non-stop.

Mine just came on yesterday too. From the research that I've done today it appears that the problem could lie in the seat belt recepticle, the under seat wiring harness, or the airbag control module. Not sure if you've tried all three possibilities...

Have you been taking your 996 to the dealer to get the airbag light/error code reset? If so, how much are they charging you?

I know that mine is caused by a sensor on the driver's seat belt harness...I have a great independant mechanic (exclusive Porsche) and he usually re-sets it for free...I think the standard charge is $50 to run the diagnosis.

Ask around, I understand if you don't need the problem diagnosed, you can reset by simply disconnecting the battery for 15 mins...I am no expert, so ask around.

Me too, it's been fixed 3 times. I just pulled the light out, so it won't be acting up any time soon.
