Just for Fun--996 Mod List: Suggestions?
SubscribeHey guys,
I thought I would post up my mod list to see if anyone had any new ideas.
I started with a 1999 996 C2 Cab about three years ago. I'm not into wings and things or stereo upgrades. Just looking to wrench a bit and making something a bit less refined than what Porsche originally built.
Here goes:
1. Replaced all the broken plastic underneath...panels, winglets, etc.
2. Sachs LWFW and clutch
3. Odyssey lightweight battery/Rennline battery mount
4. Bilstein PSS9 suspension
5. Front suspension tie bar (can't do the rear in a cab)
6. Turbo/big red brake conversion
7. 19" Fikse wheels
8. B&M short-shift kit
9. Fabspeed Cup Intake
10. Fabspeed headers
11. Fabspeed 200 Cel Cats
12. Fabspeed mufflers
13. IPD intake plenum
14. Under-power lower pulley
15. WEVO semi-solid engine mounts
16. Smart top top controller
Overall, I like the car a lot better than when it was new. It feels quicker (probably isn't), sounds better and gives me something to talk about.
At this point, other than flashing the ECU, I think I'm out of options. The next time the clutch needs replacing I will do the IMS upgrade.
What do you think?

The front suspension tie bar will do nothing fo yor car other tht maybe look nice. There is already a brace in the front trunk. Do a search on front brace and you will learn more.
Th PSS9 (or PSS10)are a great upgrade.
19 in wheel are more for looks than performance.
Just my two cents.

I would consider:
17. GT3 sway bars
18. Tarett engineering adjustable drop links
19. GT3 (or GT3 RS) wheel alignments
20. EVOMSit ECU tuning adapted for your mods
I have these in addition to most of the ones you have bar the big reds and the LWFW. My car IS faster :-)
The suspension upgrades allow near neutral handling and flatter cornering than I had with PSS10 alone.
If you want to improve your brakes further, you can perform the same mods to your big reds I have done to my standard brakes:
21. 997 GT3 front brake air ducts
22. Goodridge Stainless steel barke lines
23. Endless MX72 brake pads
These alone provide a night and day difference in brake performance both in terms of: inital bite, brake feel, linearity and overall performance. I could not go back to the OEM brakes after testing these upgrades. The OEM brakes are no longer sufficient :-)
For the engine you could also consider:
24. LN engineering deep sump kit (prevent oil surge possible with PSS9 and GT3 sways)
25. Porsche X51 Sport cams
26. Porsche X51 intake manifold
Since you have 19" i did not suggest new rims, but my 18" Carrera lightweights saved about 20lb from the 18" GT3 wheels I had before.
Loosing the spare wheel and obtaining a small compressor and a tire repair kit will save you another 10lb. I did this mainly to increase the trunk size.
