I was just reading the newest AUTOWEEK and one of the Porsche dealers is taking orders on the 2005 997 now.

 

You could be right. My local dealer told me last week that Porsche is "rumoured" to be taking 997 orders now (or very soon in the near future), especially for the TT which will be heavily allocated by the sound of it (and the waitlist may be long). I have yet to call him back to confirm this...he was going to talk to Porsche directly, and I haven't heard anything back yet. He strongly hinted that if I was thinking of getting a 997 TT to get ready to make an order (and a deposit of course!) soon.
