Sale @ Advance Auto.com -- Mobil 1 for 4.99/quart

Downside is store pickup only. I just bought 10 quarts online for my next oil change, and will pick it up tomorrow while I'm out running some other errands near the Advance Auto.

Not sure if it ends at midnight, but file this under better late than never.

Cheers,

DS

Update: Still available today...felt like stealing when it was 100 bucks for 20 quarts of M1.

Cheers,

DS

Even on sale, it's 1/3 the cost of dealership oil change. Just picking it up and bringing it home would take me as long as the drive to the dealership for an oil change would take. Everyone's opinion will vary but to me it's like buying a $3,000 guitar and trying to save $1.00 on a new set of $5.00 strings. Just not worth it. Plus after the home oil change you now have to drive the used oil to a n appropriate disposal facility.... too much time.... for me.

FWIW, the dealerships around me charge close to $300, so for $55 diy oil change, I definitely save a bit to spend on mods instead. Plus it allows me the chance to open up my oil filter and inspect it. As for used oil, there are no fewer than 3 Autozones around me that take in used motor oil for free, no questions asked. It doesn't matter if you bought the oil from them or not.

However, in luxury/sport/exotic crowd, I see quite a bit less of DIY type folks as well which is fine as some don't want to get their hands dirty or want maximum convenience over any cost savings. Different strokes for different folks...

Your prices may be higher out there but a quick check with Renology Motorsports (high-end Euro Shop) found that you too can get oil changed out there for $150. So for the DIY folks who have a lot of time - roll up the sleeves but those like me who value time $150 is the bargain.

I was referring to dealership pricing as that was what you were talking about originally. Apples to apples comparison.

Like I said DIY isn't for everyone and I respect that. I have a friend that's always gotten his Boxster S serviced at dealers but he also works crazy hours so definitely understandable.

For me personally, I don't make the extra $100 difference in a 15 min time frame(time that takes to do an oil change for me) at my normal job to justify it.
