fake turbo

Saw a narrow body 996 c2 today on the FDR with turbo decals.. Usually porsche/bmw etc drivers etc are understaters and remove their decals. eg. m5 removing their m5 decals.

Now who is that idiot that put a turbo decal on to a c2 body. i highly doubt he fit a turbo his c2. even if he did, why put turbo in the back.

wish i had a picture of that guy.

Correct me if I am wrong, but does'nt the AMG badge come with if you have some sort of AMG package or parts with the car? I am aksing this because I used to have a CLK 500 a few months ago, and i added AMG rims to car. When I took delivery of the car it came with the AMG badge on the right hand side of the trunk.

AMG parts can be added or ordered for looks only. True AMG has badge on trunk from factory.

I live in South Florida and it seems that EVERYone adds the AMG on the trunk lid, with or without the AMG wheels. anything with the 500 (S,E,CL,and S series) badge seems to have the AMG. The only true AMG cars are the C32, or anything with a 55 or now a even 65 on the emblem and all have dual exhaust.

I have a E500 with 20" wheels and was temped to add the emblem, only because it balances out the design from the rear.

I have the star emblem on the aftermarket wheels and I took off one of the 0's from the 500 and now we have a E50, ha.

It's funny because a buddy works for Mercedes and told me a story that someone wanted a E50 with the stock 20" wheels. Wonder why they thougtht that there was such a car, ha ha

I can't really blame the fake Turbo dude. You know, and I know that it's fake and stupid. Heck this whole board knows. But what percentage of the world population really knows? .0001%, maybe?

When a common non-knower looks at a Porsche, they have to walk around to the back to know if it's a Turbo or not. They are trying to answer the question of whether this is a Porsche that will be spanked by the masses of performance cars in 0-60 or if it's the king of the road that spanks the masses of performance cars.

So if you want to impress the larger percentage of people, and you're ok with the .0001% that will hate you, the math is pretty simple...

I have to go through this thought process for times when I am buying things like side skirts. Most on this board think that Mk 1 GT3 side shirts are old hat. I like them. And who am I really trying to impress?

I agree with you except...MOST people think that ALL Porsches are king of the road. My 2.5 Boxster got tons and tons of respect and "street cred" when I knew that it was underpowered and could lose a 0-30 race to a Camry...LOL....

Not as funny as the 1999 996 I saw the other day with "GT" added after the Carrera emblem.

what's wrong with having a regular carrera? no point rebadging, similar to rebadging a Turbo a "GT2". as if any of these cars aren't good enough.

though I can understand rebadging a Civic to a Type R ... because a reg Civic is a POS.

I agree with HotRodGuy. Remove the E500 badge as the car looks so much better with just the star.

exactly.. c2 is an excellent car. NA engine, RWD, lightweight. no need to be turbo envy. both cars are excellent in its own right.
