" NEW MEMBER " needs clutch advice 996 carrera

After spending the last week now researching this topic I figured I would try to pick some brains here, any help or advice is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I have a 2000 Porsche Carrera 2 last week I drove the car Monday it was PERFECT, went Tuesday and out of no where the clutch peddle felt funny, not smooth when pressing it. First thought, air in the system?! Decided to take the car out to see how it drove... NIGHTMARE the car would not accelerate with out the clutch slipping, tried to get onto highway and anything over 3,500 rpm it would slip so I got the car back to my shop. Ordered spec stage 1 clutch as this was the same clutch I ran in another 996 I had and I love it!!! By Wednesday we had everything taken apart the clutch was worn down to the rivets :-0 with no such signs of wear till randomly Tuesday :-/

The flywheel looked to be in good order, took it to a machine shop that is familiar with the dual mass flywheels and machining it down, came out brand new.. By Thursday the car was back together new clutch RMS and machined down DMFW... Went to drive the car upon inspection the clutch felt PERFECT, went to drive the car and SHUTTER UPON ACCELERATION with the clutch depressed :-0 my thought was the new spec clutch was to strong for the 89k mile OEM flywheel?!?

So I ordered a LUK flywheel Friday had it overnighted and recieved last night, prior to dropping tranny again what are your thoughts on the problem being caused by the OEM flywheel?! The car shakes and shutters only at low rpm accelerations, I can accelerate at higher rpm with only a slight noise, however driving in stop and go traffic or in a parking garage the car feels like its falling apart...

Will install the LUK early next week an see if it fixes the problem...

Any help or advice is GREATLY GREATLY APPRECIATE!!!

THANK YOU!!!

Brian Hutchinson

Why not just replace with stock Sach's clutch + throw out bearing? Sounds more like the pressure plate has gone bad.

I have not had this issue but it sounds like it has to be the flywheel.

You lightened the flywheel by machining it. Shudder is a trait of a light flywheel.

Good to hear. So was bad behavior between clutch and pressure plate. Again I vouch for stock replacement parts in clutch unless adding forced induction.

Installed the OEM clutch kit from Porsche and fixed once I had spec out is when we noticed the clutch was flexing, the spec clutch has ZERO miles on it but looks like it has +/- 100 miles... Not a happy camper over that, however very pleased with the outcome with the OEM clutch set up , decided on spec as we had wanted to add forced induction to the car...
