Gotcha. Looks like a nice system.

Shouldn't you be using Mcintosh amp with the Mark Levinsons instead? j/k

Yeah yeah ha ha. But a tube driven amp wouldn't do so great under the bonnet

I used two of the component sets in the front dash, two sets in the back panels, and then the two pretty silver ones in the doors. This was all composite material and not the crappy cardboard like the bose garbage. I did use the bose sub woofers in their factory housing in the back though. That factory speaker box was too nice to throw out. In all honesty, this is the best sound system I have heard in an automobile. I had a full Focal setup in my NSX and this blows it away. I'm not into lots of bass and the loud thumping you hear coming from the Caprice with 24" wheels I like clarity and distinction and this setup provides all anyone would ever need.

I've had focals before(before they became mainstream popular) but think they're way overhyped and priced now. Wonder if these sound better than DynaAudio's?

I agree SQ over SPL...

This is a brilliant bit of recycling and improving upon the factory. Not sure where the idea came from to use the Lexus parts, but its inspired! Well done, looks fantastic and you suggest sounds great too. There is quite a bit of glue visible in the build pics, did your guy cut the porsche parts back and glue in the Lexus mounts or was it necessary to make repairs. Any more details on this would be appreciated.

A friend of mine has an LS460 and I have always been impressed with the ML sound system.....so I searched until I found a full setup.

What you're calling glue is actually melted plastic. We cut the pods and welded the plastic. We used the porsche Bose housings but cut them to where we could weld in the ML pods. Didn't have to modify the doors or the door panels. Just the plastic speaker housings. That's all. We also got the Lexus clips and plugs. It basically made the system plug and play.

The whole car really is fantastic.

There has to be a crossover somewhere to prevent the full range of sound from hitting the tweeters. If they were running full range they would blow in a matter of minutes.

Your installer may have used the crossover on the amplifier (running the tweeters on one chanel and the midrange on another) or burried the crossovers somewhere that you are not seeing. In some cases the crossover on the amp is just as good (or better) than what comes with the speakers, but some companies (like the afformentioned Dynaudio) spend a good chunk of change on the crossover components and should be used.
