Limited Slip?
Limited Slip?
How can I physically tell if the rear differential is limited slip? The car has been modified, so I'm not certain if just reading a code somewhere will truly answer the question. It feels to me like both tires are hooking up on a hard launch, but I'm not sure.
It is a 2003 C4S that has been converted to rear wheel drive. Still has the AWD tranny.

Two ways - if your 996 has a TC (traction control) button on the dash it has limited slip. One sure way is to jack up the rear of the car so both rear wheels are off the ground. Then on one side of the car turn one of the rear wheels. If they both turn in the same direction it has a LSD. If not it is a open diff.
Thanks guys. It does the have traction control button on the dash. I raised the rear end of the car this morning and verified that both wheels turn in the same direction. I guess that this means that it has limited slip.
