Manually lowering the convertible top?

Manually lowering the convertible top?
Well I found the allen key and followed the directions in the owners manual. What happens after the fitting that receives the allen wrench shears off? Am I screwed or is there a solution like taking the nuts off the assembly to get access to that part? Thanks, Bob
