Sounds like a deal you should jump on, unless you found a better offer. You can't gripe about a company that stands behind their warranty. They don't know how you, or anyone else, have cared for the product. Next time get a Contour. Mine is several years old, working perfectly, cheaper because they don't advertise like GoPro, and they are smaller.

Additionally, it's only 300 dollars. Take it out of your 3000 annual set aside for maintenance and move on. You've now spent time, and money on replacement parts that didn't work. You either NEED one or don't. If you do, get one. If not, save the money and move on.

Aha, I thought I was the only one who favoured the Contour over a GoPro.

They won't get any now as previously stated Contour as a company is no more.

So who else out there has a "better" product than GoPro?

Personally, I think GoPro is widely know purely because of their marketing.
Contour cameras are equally good. I actually like the form factor of the Contour. Its not boxy as a GoPro is, and the one-button control is a big plus. They have pretty much all of the video modes that a GoPro has. Also, changing the orientation of the lens when the camera is mounted sideways (weird angles) is a more intuitive feature on the Contour - just rotate the lens as needed. So far I've had no issues with my Contour - the lack of warranty hasn't been an issue for me.

The new JVC ADIXXION GC-XA2 looks pretty interesting...

Spec-wise similar to the Hero3, some pluses and minuses...

Big pluses in my mind are:
  • Waterproof/dustproof to 5 meters without an additional case (deeper with case)
  • Build-in LCD monitor to compose/align your camera.
  • Tripod socket! It drives me crazy that I have to add a case or a frame *and* a tripod adapter just to put my GoPro on a 1/4" tripod thread!
  • Built-in image stabilization.
  • Uses conventional SD cards (which I have lots of) instead of micro-SD cards (which are so tiny I always loose them)

I already have a ContourHD and GoPro3 Black, I'd trade either for the new JVC in a heartbeat!

Don't confuse this with the very similar looking GC-XA1... Though the XA1's are now showing up on sale for under $170, a good deal if you don't need the advanced features of the XA2.
