40th Anniversary 911 Registry
Greetings, everyone. I'm new to 6speed - I have a 40th anniversary 911 (nr. 0711). I've already posted the info that I describe below on other owners' forums and hope that the 40AE owners on 6speed will find this useful.
As we prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 911, and the 10th birthday of our 40th anniversary 911 cars, I was struck by the lack of a more robust registry of our vehicles. The owners of the 30th anniversary 911s have their own website registry (http://jubi.pocg.de/pages/en/welcome.php). That registry is a great way to document the whereabouts of the “30 Jahre 911” cars, to allow interaction among their owners, and to create a history of each car. I don’t have the acumen to develop a website like they’ve done, but I have spent months performing research to develop a similar type of registry. I scoured all of the owners forums I could find around the world, having great fun translating foreign postings. In a Dropbox folder (see link at bottom of this posting) I have uploaded two files: (1) a listing of 40AE's for which I found numbers, with thumbnail photos to verify the identity of the cars, and (2) a listing, with thumbnails for identification, of 40AEs for which I couldn’t find a number (each car in this listing has a “U” number assigned to it - see explanation below). I ask that the 40AE owners (past and present) verify that I have their numbers correct or provide me with the number(s) for cars that are lacking that information (give me the “U” number so that I can cross-reference it). I would be happy to regularly keep these files updated; however, if someone else has the resources and ability to create something more interactive, I would be happy to work with them. I’m doing this as a hobby, albeit a passionate hobby. I love my car and its heritage and truly enjoy the stories that surround each of these vehicles. I’m quite confident that I have a great deal of incorrect information in these listings. Please understand that I am relying on the accuracy of web-based vehicle sale listings, and car sellers are notoriously inaccurate with their details. I wish I had a dollar for every car that was called a "996 40th Anniversary Turbo", or descriptions of the paint color being "Polar Silver Metallic", etc. Anyway, I hope you find this registry project as useful and enjoyable as I have. Any suggestions how to improve this would be much appreciated. Thanks. Link to registry files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/402gqbvsv92uz4l/Is2tIKl-Er In my research I found several 6speed members who have/had 40AEs. I need help verifying or identifying the numbers of their cars. tsolomon oneeyedjack catchmyshadow (sold) silver40th911 (sold) 9112GO jiffen Mase (sold?) donnyj (sold) fasteddiett psusteve saabin (brother bought 40AE in Oct 2012) Marwan Mclarenracer22 (seems to have been selling - not sure if no. 0030 or 0630) PS - I have a great deal more research info on most of these cars, meaning more than what is shown in the registry files you will access via Dropbox. If you need info on any particular car PM me. |

I suspect the rules here are the same as on other forums, so, as a new poster, here are my pics (taken tonight while doing my regular detailing). Enjoy.

Thanks for the kind words. She just recently hit 70,000 miles. I'm so proud to own this wonderful car. I could talk about her all day but I don't want to bore everyone on this board. Here are a few more pics that I recently took. |

In terms of any supercharged or turbocharged 40AEs, I didn't find any in my research. The closest I found (in terms of significant engine mods) was no. 0759, which was for sale in Orlando a few months ago. The seller had a 3.8 engine by Flat 6 Innovations. I've attached the ad in case you're interested in how he described the engine. Other than that car yours is obviously very unique and I'm sure it's crazy fast. |

Nelly - I sent you an email to try to get some clarification on Mclarenracer22's number from his old car. Please take a look at it and reply when you get a chance.

I responded to your e-mail and Frank's (Mclarenracer22) is indeed No. 0030/1963 and mine is indeed No. 1103/1963. Hope this helps. Good job on the registry. N3llynova |

Any thoughts feelings on this 996 40th? I have 1006# NV car original now in SF CA. I was trying to get a feel for IMS and or RMS. this car is awesome but does have a light seep at baring. also brake pads go oem or is there a better option. |

For what it's worth (something I posted a few months ago), I had read enough IMS failure horror stories that I felt compelled to have the original IMS bearing on my 40th anniversary edition replaced with the LN ceramic bearing. Since the car had a little over 69K miles I thought that I'd replace the clutch, too. When I took the car in to have both of those items replaced (as well as the RMS), I got a call from the repair shop and they told me that they'd done the IMS and RMS replacement, but in good conscience they couldn't replace the clutch and/or flywheel because they were in phenomenal condition. They said that the clutch disc measured 8.27mm and a new disc measures 9mm, and that they don't usually replace them until they're at 7.5mm. They also said that the dual mass flywheel was in great shape. It turns out that the original RMS was starting to be compromised but the original IMS bearing was in good shape. At least I now have peace of mind relative to the IMS issue. |
