Rolled the fender lip in the rear just for peace of mind. No rubbing anywhere, no issues, feel better response than the old 18" twisties. Then again I am the furthest thing from a purist.

Not sure about 20's, it would need to ride a little higher to give the same clearances I think. With my setup both front and rear are the same OD at 25.8".

I really like the way you personalized your car. Is that a wrap on the hood and roof. It blends good with the wheels.

Side shot, side shot..... hmmm, never thought about it before but I guess all of mine are at some angle? oh, found one on the phone... I think they fill up the wheel wells just about right. Remember these are 19's not 20's.

Thank you for the kind words on the wrap. Just did that last week and wasn't sure what the response might be. I agree, with the blacked out wheels it ties in, without those it might look a bit out of place... Personally I'm diggin it!

Rims
Victor Equipment Lemans 20x8.5
Victor Equipment Lemans 20x10.5 (Interestingly I can find only 20x10 on the current VE site. My rims may actually be 20x10 as I remember having to send back a set of rears because they were too wide.)

Tires
235/30ZR -20 General Exclaim UHP XL
295/25ZR -20 General Exclaim UHP XL

Horribly disproportional IMO. Nothing says class like oversized wheels with bottom shelf tires on them

To each his own. I respect the opinion that the OEM sizes for the year look the best, but I opted for something that I thought looked good. If you don't like the look, I'm assuming you think the new 991 with OEM 20s are disproportionate as well.

On the bottom shelf tires quip, I've used a variety of different tires (expensive and not expensive - eg pzeros etc) and I like the General UHPs. I have no issue spending a lot on tires, but I feel lucky that I'm happy with the General UHPs.

20s on a 996. I wouldn't lower it.

What you seem to be missing is that a 991 is a proportionally larger car and the chassis was designed from the ground up to accommodate 19" and 20" rims.
I do agree to each his own but get some decent tires dude your car deserves it and the experience will be so much better. Check out Hankook or Sumi's not expensive and highly rated tires.

look we all want to justify are purchases, and of course each to his own as far as upgrades etc.....but the 991 comparison is ridiculous thats a larger car and the wheels and tires were designed for it,there are some purists on this site and you have to expect a response, especially when it comes to wheel and tire posts, the car is safer, and handles so much better with the correct sizes and quality tires.there are so many quality upgrades available, for the 996,suspension,body interior,etc....all it takes is cash,LOL . Anyway enjoy your car and really watch out for the potholes!

The funny thing is, the 996 and 997 are proportionally the same car, but only 18" were available for the 996. Does this mean the engineers were wrong to put 19" on the 997? Its such a piddly argument. For me the offset and design of the wheel made the difference over the OD. The old turbo twists were just dated and boring, it was time to give it a facelift and help this old dog feel like he could play with the young pups again. HA!

They weren't wrong at all! The difference is that the 997 was designed to accept 19" wheels. The suspension components were modified to accomodate the increased forces from the larger wheels and the gearing was changed so that the acceleration numbers wouldn't be negatively impacted. Finally, the 997 was tested by Porsche with 19" wheels to ensure they were safe and provided the expected performance.

I couldn't care less if somebody puts 20" wheels on their 996. I'm sure somebody will squeeze 21" wheels onto a 996 if they haven't already. I feel that people should understand the trade offs associated with their choices. For some people, the known issues with larger wheels are an acceptable trade. For some people, they are not. Ultimately, it all comes down to the desires of the car owner.

My comment was in reference to the "horribly disproportional" and "proportionally larger car to accommodate 19". I understand the trade offs and accept them but to say they don't aesthetically fit a 996 is an opinion battleground since they "are" an acceptable look for the 997 but "are not" proportionally correct for the 996 (same size car). All I was saying... I agree with your comments otherwise.

Agreed. I think 19" wheels look great on a 996, but I still prefer 18s.
