Hello,

I just picked up my 2001 996 C2 today after being in the shop for about 3 weeks. It was brought to a well-known independent shop in the New Orleans area where I live. It was initally brought in for a CEL that indicated vario-cam issues on one of the banks. (Sorry, don't remember the code)

They ended up replacing the cam actuator, which required dropping the engine. Since they were going that far, I had them replace the IMS (with LN Egineering), the RMS and the AOS.

On the way back to my house (20 miles), the CEL came on again. Now it is indicating P1130. I have an ODB2 scanner, so I tried to reset the CEL, but it won't clear. My scanner tries to erase, but it comes right back as "1 Code" active. It doesn't even clear for a second, even with the engine off (key in On position).

Any ideas on what this could be? Does it make sense that the code won't clear, even when the engine is not running?

Didn't the shop fix it and it isn't running now? If you paid them to fix it, I would take it back there.

I don't really understand why you have to do the legwork when you paid someone else to do it.

It could be several things including something simple as loose or unplugged wiring. Hard to say, especially since they removed the engine.

 

Sounds like a MAF sensor, clean it. Shop should haver done it. What ari filter do you have? If it's something like a K&N it may be over oiled. You should only oil the intake side.

 

P1130 is the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for "Manufacturer Controlled Fuel and Air Metering".

Start with the easy DIY and make sure your gas cap is on tight. After that do what FLA996TT recommends and clean your MAF and check your air filter if it's a reusable one.

The shop did come to my house to pick the car up today and they are looking into it. They looked at it this afternoon, and they didn't find anything obvious, but I was told they have a diagnostic "tree" they have to follow, so they will continue on it tomorrow.

I was hoping it would be something obvious to them, but it was apparently not.

 

P.S. The car is stock and the air filter is the MANN version.
