Thanks alpine003. Guess that explains the mystery. Right after I replaced the AOS, I relocated to Florida and I have never seen the stuff again. Therefore I assumed (and you know what that means, lol) that there was a correlation between the two.

To be honest that scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it which was when I was driving it back several hundred miles. I thought I might've had a blown head gasket or something. I just wanted to point it out to anyone driving it back on a long trip to save them a heart attack.

Road trip

So up at 04:00 last Wednesday morning to begin the 1600 km / 1000 mile trip home with my new to me C4S who now has a name but more on that later.
Trip started off innocuously enough until 1 hour 20 minutes in barreling north west on the N3 highway heading for Bloemfontein and I come round a curve to be met with the hazard lights of two semi trailers stopped on the road. Stopped shut down and waited for about 20 minutes until someone came walking toward me and said that there was a tractor trailer unit jack knifed and lying sideways across the entire highway, great this will put a dent in my head start. Turns out the trailer was carrying supplies for one of the supermarket chains here and as is the way in SA the locals came pouring out of the dark bush and cleared the road and trailer of everything it was carrying like a plague of locusts.
Anyway the road was cleared after about 1 hour 40 minutes so onwards The drive went pretty uneventfully.
There was a bit of a heart stopping moment about 6 hours into the drive when the oil pressure suddenly dipped to 0 and a warning on the dash told me of a failure, I immediately coasted to the roadside and shut her down. I luckily had some Mobil 1 with me and after checking the oil level discovered there was none lost most strange. I turned the key and the car did the oil level check which showed full and the oil pressure was at 2 bar all normal, I set off again keeping a careful eye on the pressure gauge. The fault reappeared on quite a few more occasions but by the third stop to check I put this down to an intermittent sender issue or loose wire as the oil level remained normal. Oh and since getting home and taking a few more drives the problem has never resurfaced?
Had another scare about 3 hours from home when a drunk in a small town almost stumbled out into the road in front of me, bit of a heart stopping moment I can tell you! oh and then someone else came out from behind a tractor trailer unit to overtake in pitch dark forcing me all e way over onto the break down lane still don't know how he missed me.
All in all the car performed flawlessly all the way never missing a beat. It really is quite an awesome car and very comfortable long distance cruiser.

Nice, glad you and the car got back in one piece.

I would replace the oil pressure sender unit or at least inspect the wiring and connector for corrosion, as it looks like it's on it's way out.

Also I would inspect the engine mounts as your tips seem on the lower side. They could be fine as you only have 30k on her but you never know.

Glad you made it back and trip was successful. Thanks for posting a few pictures, the scenery looks amazing in your area. As for the oil pressure sender unit, I would check the connections first as alpine suggests and clean if needed. If the problem keeps occurring I would then change it out. For more information on the Oil Pressure Unit Click Here. Let us know how it goes.

That's good to hear. The sender should be on the top of the right side valve cover and look like the one shown below.
