narrowing tire choices
I have Hankooks V12 and no complaints. At $800 all round on 18 wheels a fair price for a daily driver (But not in the snow). The back end in the snow wants to go before the front end of the car and will at the slightest of revs. Ask me how I know. You wont drive yourself out of a 180degree tail spin in the slightest of snow with normal tire pressures.
depends on what you want (good deal or the best tire) but if you want the absolute best summer tire on the market (without going to road legal track tires) go Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
A bit pricey but very, very good.

This is the reason I wouldn't care what my tires cost. If it's your daily driver, out in all conditions, get come great tires that are proven on the 911. The Conti's aren't necessarily a bad choice. Michelin's are always at the top of the list.
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta are excellent tyres, Not sure how easy it is to get them in the states though. check out this site for loads of different tyre reviews www.tyrereviews.co.uk
Between my 911 and my Cayenne, I've tried several tire brands. I've narrowed it down to a few that I like. On the 911, I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. I know they are expensive, but I've simply been unable to find a tire that performs as well on my car. I'd love to try the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, but it's not available in the size that my C4S requires for the rear tires. I had Pirelli P-Zeros before the Michelins. They had poor wear life, they were loud and I didn't enjoy them. I've also tried a set of "cheap" tires - the Sumitomo HTR ZIII. They were very noisy and there was a noticeable reduction in performance.
I know this isn't "apples to apples", but I've used the Conti DWS and the Hankook Ventus on my Cayenne. I wasn't happy with the performance, noise level or tread wear of the Hankooks. I won't buy them again. The Conti, on the other hand, is the best tire I've ever had on the Cayenne. I run them as my summer tires (we can get snow in June here) and I switch to dedicated winter tires when it gets cold. The Conti is certainly no substitute for a proper winter tire, but it will allow you to get by in most conditions. It's a reasonable compromise tire if you're okay with that. It will never truly excel in any conditions compared to a purpose-built tire, but it will perform well in all conditions.

I've run the Conti DW and the Michelin PSS. The Michelins were easily the best tire I had due to low noise, comfort ride, excellent in the wet, and corner grip. Some tires are better than PSS in one category, but not in all. Plus you get a warranty through Michelin on your tires also.
