flooded 996 Cab..won't start...pls help

Hello,

My 996 Cabriolet had 1 inch of rain water yesterday on the floor and will not start. Alarm started going off. Now nothing turns on.

Anybody have any suggestions / tricks how to start it ? I just want the engine to start. Don't care about power windows working or alarm.

Should i remove the driver seat and try to dry out the alarm module under the driver seat ? Any helpful tricks so i can avoid taking it to dealer ?

thank you in advance,

Justin Roderick

Thats the problem, right there. You can try drying it out but I think you may have to buy a new/used one from ebay.

if possible let it sit in the sun to dry out, if it won't start after that ebay for a new alarm module as suggested. Use a wet vac to start the drying process. Then, clean out your drain holes.

I had this exact same thing happen before. First unplug make sure to leave your frunk, doors, windows cracked. Second, unhook battery. Then remove the alarm module and you'll need to undo all the clips carefully to open it up. Dry out the inside with towel then blow dry on low. Let it sit for a couple days. If this doesn't work then you'll not only need a new alarm, you'll have to pay to get it reprogrammed to all your keys and your ecu. This should be couple hours labor at most at a dealer.

I might have a spare alarm module depending on which version you have. If you take a pic of the label on top of your alarm module, I can see if the one I have will be compatible. The dealer got me the wrong one the first time(mk2 version).

Oh and you WILL need to remove your entire carpet from the car and dry it out as the foam underneath holds a LOT of water. If you don't, you WILL have mold forming underneath.

The carpet is a pain in the **** to remove but needs to be done. If you have comprehensive insurance, I recommend just making a claim and saving on the headaches. If you decide to tackle yourself, I can offer some tips on carpet removal.

Hi,

Hooray !!! I took out driver seat and opened up M535 alarm module, then let it air dry for 2 hrs, then unhooked battery and electric wire plugged ( then reconnected battery and wires into M535 ) ...and it started !!!

BUT...NONE of windows will go down and neither will Cabriolet Top.. Any suggestions ??

( As long as it gets me to work and back is main thing ).

thanks in advance,

Justin

I think this is where the dealer and his tester will be needed to re-program the unit. The water could have permanently ruined the module. It might even be worth drying it out again. Leave it opened for a couple of days as suggested. Then try the top via the 'key in the drivers door method'. If all fails. Take it in to a Porsche Dealer and they will test the module for you.
