Oil Indicator Failure...???

Saw this three times this weekend. The facts: 2002 Carrera 4 cab, 71000 miles; 84 degrees outside, perfect day; three different times, not under stress (merging onto freeway, climbing low incline, cruising around 55) I saw a message flicker- and for less than a SECOND, in the window at the bottom of the tach. The message was the oil can icon (little oil can with oil drips coming out) and the read one or the other of these phrases: "Oil Can icon- Indicator Failure", or "Oil Can icon-Failure Indicator".

This happened so quickly and disappeared so quickly I could not read it accurately. At the same time, I saw the oil pressure needle drop from 5 bar to the bottom (for less than a half second) then resume its position.

No change in performance; temperature stayed in its normal position all day (just a hair above 180 degrees); no noticeable change at all. I am scheduled to take it in for the 60k service (just had it for a couple of months and getting caught up on maintenance) on Wednesday and want to know what to tell my guy.

Any clues??? Thanks a million for your help.

Well, you didn't say whether you checked your oil level. Did you? If it's not full, it could be an issue.

Hey Steve- Forgot that. Oil is just above middle on barograph. No issues there.

oil pressure sensor....i think it's about 50 bucks..if you look at your engine from the back it's on the right side. Check the 2 connectors first but the older units did have some issues. There's an undated one.

Sensor. Check your oil level, you shouldn't be running with the bar graph half down, that indicates you are 1/2 a quart low.

I had the sensor replaced yesterday at the dealer, $76 for the part, for a grand total of $247.00.

I also had the same issue, oil warning light came on in the OBC, then a few weeks later the light came on again but this time it was in the row of warning lights.
