sideboob is infamous around these parts
cold oil pressure concern

Recently, I've notice that my cold oil pressure is a bit lower than normal, 4.5 instead of pegged at 5. I'm talking about a cold start on a cold Colorado morning. Hot oil pressure remains as it always has, 2.5 - 3 @ idle depending on how heavy my foot is that day. The car is daily driven and tracked pretty regularly. Should I be worried?

Worried? Probably not.

How many miles on the oil? If enough it can be thinned with unburned fuel and water. Remember these engines don't get real hot in cold weather so water can build up in the oil. That 2.5 to 3.0 bar hot idle oil pressure I think is partially due to the engine being cool. It takes some running of my Turbo's engine even in this 40's to 50's degree weather to get the engine and the oil hot enough the hot idle oil pressure drops below 2.0 bar.

What oil are you running? Even if it is not full of unburned fuel and water it might be time for a change. BTW, in CO this time of year you should be running 0w-40 I would think.

No worries, Porsche indicates at 5000rpm the oil pressure should be "at least" 3.5 bars. I wouls keep an eye on it as this could be an indication the sending unit is beginning to fail. If it continues with out changing, you should be ok.
Make sure your oil is full as well, don't rely on the guage, use the dip stick.
