Autobacs performance Superstore...
Autobacs performance Superstore...
Hey guys I think I am going to check out Autobacs in Stanton (So. Cal) tomorrow. There was a write up in the local PCA mag about the new store a couple months back. I read that it mainly caters to the asain performance car crowd...But there were lots of Porsche performance parts to be had...I buy most of my stuff online (Usually can't beat the prices locally or I can't get the item) Anyway I will check it out and let you guys know what I find.

Well first impression was what I was expecting Asian Car Superstore... Out front they had 6 vendor sponsored Japanese cars to greet you.
It reminds me of Incredible Universe (BK later sold assets Fry's Electronics... I went in with an open mind (I did see a token SY Boxster in the parking lot, so I knew I had back up inside!)
First things first was to hit the head very clean Bathrooms next to the service department. Took a peak at the service bay where they install Suspensions, Wheels, tires, oil changes, alignments and A/V installs. They have one Hunter Alignment rack a couple Standard lifts and the rest of the bays had lifts to change wheels. You could eat off the floor of this warehouse service department. Cleaner then the dealer keeps there shop.
The A/V area had all kinds of toys with all of the latest Head units and Nav systems. I wanted to check out the new Rosen R6500 head unit but they did not stock it. But the kid working the area told me it was a sweet unit and he could order it for me. If they don't have something they can order just about anything.
The performance area was full of Asian performance parts Exhaust tips the size of my head, Coil over suspensions, Brake kits, etc. Not much in terms of Porsche. Although they did stock Brembo & Brillstein. The wheel and tire area took up about 15% of this giant store (The store was about the size of a Target.) They had all the popular performance tire brands and none of the wheels anyone on this board would be looking for.
In the center of the store was lots of what I call CRAP blinky **** to complete the Rice look. I spent ZERO time in this area.
Near the front they had every performance fluid you could ever want, Even the hard to find stuff. BUT most of the brands were WAY over priced $19/can for ATE Super Blue!!!
In the back of the store they had an Offroad section...Not into that stuff so I passed by. One isle I did not was a Hardware isle. Lots of Misc. bags of bolts, screws, nuts, fasteners, brackets, Etc. great for the DIY'er. This is a good thing to know!
Finally I went up stairs where they had a Huge Library of car books, Toys, Models, DVD, and lots of gift type items. Also you can go into their upstairs customer lounge that has large windows looking out over the service bay. You also have access to a bridge that spans the entire length of the building again looking over the service bay.
It was an interesting outing not a place I would shop very often. However I could see myself going back from time to time. I thought it was overprice which I think will eventually hurt them. I went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was semi busy, but there were no line at the registers. I can't see this place staying in business to tell you the truth.
