Full Engine Replace - more or less likely to buy?
Looking at a 996 with a full engine replacement by a Porsche dealer. Car is early 2000s and engine replacement is the newer 996 engine (3.6).
Would this make your more or less likely to buy the car?

That doesn't seem likely as there is a significant amount of work and expense necessary to put a stock 3.6 engine in a MK I (3.4) car. It's probably either a stock 3.4 or a rebuilt 3.4 that has been bored-out to 3.6.
Edit - Is the car a 2000? Now not sure by what you meant by early 2000s.

I would say that replacing the engine with the 3.6 de-values the car as its not original but thats my opinion. I would think to myself what has happened to the car if its needed a new engine and is the rest of it alright...? That being said im sure there are cars out there that have had legitimate failures.

The MY of the car and the engine serial number are necessary to know the car MY and engine "year" agree.
If the engine replacement is kosher and with paperwork to back it up I would not be bothered by the fact the car received an engine replacement.
The car should still have to pass a thorough used car check out consisting of a test ride then drive, used car check list check out, then a PPI.
