Are 996 axles compatible with VW axles?
I would absolutely Love to not spend $2,000+ on new axles for my 2001 996 C4. Has anyone ever checked to see if axles (and any other major parts) are compatible with VW parts? Any other ways to save big?
Any other advice about clicking axles with torn CV boots? I've replaced on other cars, but not a Porsche. Cost is my biggie right now though.

When it came time for new boots for the half shafts on my Boxster and the question of possible replacement of the axles came up -- factory vs. "aftermarket" -- someone mentioned a company that sells suitable axles at a discount to the factory axle prices.
Unfortunately I can't recall the name of the company. A search turned up Vertex Auto and Pelican offering half shafts though at not much less than the factory price.
Where are you located in Utah? I've always had my original axles rebuilt by a company who does OEM rebuilds on them. I did a Google search and this company called CV Axle Express in Salt Lake City came up. Otherwise, we have OEM supplier axles here for almost half of what Genuine would cost you.
