IMS Guardian
IMS Guardian
Has anyone purchased the IMS Guardian device for their 996 recently? I went to the site (http://theimsguardian.com/) but can't seem to find anyway to purchase one so I'm wondering if they are no longer making them? If not, does anyone else make anything similar?
Thanks
Thanks
We have not sold units directly, since 2012.
Thanks for the response. I checked both LN and Pelican and neither site has the Guardian listed or available for purchase. Pelican does have a version of it, but not the one specific to the Porsche 996 with the dash switch that looks like a standard switch. Is that unit no longer produced?

We have not received any orders from distributors for these since the last batch was made. This may be due to cheap IMS Retrofit kits that have been sold for a similar cost to the Sr. IMS Guardian product.
The other unit that you mention, the IMS Guardian Junior, is universally applicable and fits any car, so these may take the place of the Sr. kit in the eyes of the distributors.
We will produce what is ordered, as long as the minimum amount of units to make a run are met. At the present we do not have any Sr. orders in hand.
I tried to order a Sr. from Pelican and they told me they couldn't take my order because the supplier had an indefinite back order.
I have a Tiptronic, so it's a bit more expensive to replace the IMS. $4,100 for the "Solution", which I will probably do if I hang on to my car for longer than a year (holding out for a 997.2).
In the meantime, I'd much rather pay $370 for a Sr. (Jr looks ugly) to monitor for metal.
The bad new is, once metal is detected, from what my research has told me, you are most likely not a candidate for an IMS upgrade anyway since the damage has probably already been done.
Given that, the Guardian probably just notifies you that you are already screwed.
I'd still buy a Sr. if I could figure out how to get one ordered. Otherwise, if I decide to hold on to the car and not upgrade to a 996 TT or 997.2, I'll have Jake do a Solution on it and then not worry about it. Although, even with a Solution, it would still be nice to know if metal is being made somewhere.
I have an airplane with a Continental flat 6, but I just change the oil every 35 hours (or 4 months) and cut open the oil filter. Maybe that's the best way. You have to wait for the oil changes, but as long as you do them frequently, you should be able to see stuff in the filter.
Which brings my rambling to a close with a recommendation to get the LN Oil change kit, which filters 100% of the oil and includes a magnet in the oil change plug.
