to all my fellow 996 owners, you guy's (and gals) are some of the nicest and most helpful people on the six speed forums. Even if questions have been asked before usually someone will respond. I've poste in two of the other forums asking for info and no one, and I mean no on responded. Oh well.
I'm thinking of buying a 2006 Cayenne with 61k on the clock.

Well said, I agree 6 Speeders are a good bunch of folks.
The help both technical and non-technical that came from here has saved me a lot of headaches and money.
Whether you folks believe in a higher being or not, no matter what, my wife, Betty and I would like to wish everyone a great holiday season.
Let's all look forward to 2016 with good health, safety for all of us and most of all, happiness.
Sincerely,
David

All in all not a bad bunch, even Alpine
I've been a 996 owner since October 2014 and on this forum maybe a few weeks prior to that. Living in the UK I find this is better than any forum on British soil, helpful members (some 996 fanatics) and always patient with the novice and noob questions. Thanks guys and girls

I love how the Cayenne drives, but have heard rumor that it has some maintenance and reliability issues. I HAVE NOT done my homework, but have heard the alternators fail and its a monster PITA to replace.
My baby (996 C4S) is going nowhere, I just need another car that can talk to her in German....
You are correct, but it's mostly with the V8 models including the Turbo, S and GTS. What happens is this, Porsche decided to use plastic tubing for the cooling, and it cracks and dumps coolant on the alternators, they finally agreed to recall and replace. The 3.2 and 3.6 V6 models have aluminum tubing and overall are very reliable, biggest complaint with them was underpower, but if I want to go fast I'll drive the C4S.

I had a thread some time ago about replacing the family hauler. Tested out the Cayenne, GLKs, SlineQ5 and Q7, X5, then fell in love with wait for it.......
Lincoln MKT! It is a sleeper car, with hp's and 0-60's to beat out the cars listed above. Twin turbo no less. We blew out one of the turbo's already hustling over the summer beach house to a soccer tournament and back. It was replaced under warranty and it didn't lose a step. It is truly a hot wagon!
The feeling of beating BMW's and Audi's off the line
I owned a 2004 Cayenne S for 10 years. It's virtually identical to the 2006 Cayenne, although the 2006 has PCM 2.1 as opposed to PCM 2.0 on the 2006 model. The Cayenne served my family well for nearly 150,000 miles. It was a very comfortable and capable vehicle. I did have to replace the common wear items and make the common repairs over the years, including:
- Metal coolant pipe upgrade (done as a preventative measure before they burst)
- Water pump
- Cardan shaft x2
- Horn x2
- Air suspension compressor rebuild
- Occasional bits of interior trim needing to be reattached
Feel free to send me a PM if you'd like to talk more about Cayennes. I was initially planning to replace the Cayenne with a new one, but my wife wanted to go a different direction. We ended up ordering a new Audi SQ5. I think that we will replace that with another Cayenne when the time comes.

Hey Dennis, thanks. I just purchased a GLK350 4Matic. Appriciate the input.
