Cool DIY IMS DOF System for M96/M97 engines

Has anybody tried to machine a DOF system to an OEM IMS Flange? Seems like drilling and threading an OEM IMS flange and installing a 90 degree elbow should be able to accomplish this. Maybe welding a 90 degree steel tube with an adapter at one end is even better idea? Having a machine shop and technician (my brother's) available, paying $800+ for a DOF system seems a little steep to me. I understand the engineering involved and the peace of mind that a DOF might bring but, still. 'Whyt pay if you can do it yourself' is one of my mantras, I guess.

Awaiting your thoughts on the matter,
