Rear Main Seal (RMS) problem.

I have a 2001 996 Tiptronic with 20,000 miles. I've noticed a few oil drops under the engine the last few days. Is this always a RMS problem? Do tiptronics have the same RMS problem. Do I need to get this to the dealer ASAP. Should I even drive any further until I can get it in.

I finally got my TT front bumper on with new sideskirts and Aero wing. My orient red metallic turns head wherever I go. Now into the shop. What a pain. Thanks.

Ken, Most likely it is the RMS, however it could also be the cam covers, spark plug tubes, breather hose, or one of many other sources. If it isn't leaking too bad or leaking on the exhaust, I wouldn't rush right into the repair shop. Hope this helps. Thom

Have it checked out just to be safe, if so it could end up in a mess.

Re: Rear Main Seal (RMS) problem.

If it is still under warranty, I'd take it in and let them TELL you what the problem is... then you can decide if you want Porsche to fix it. Whatever you do... don't let them "fix" it without an explaination... even if you don't understand; make them explain and show you on pictures using the PET system that they have in the parts department.
