Scrubbing from right front brake

My 99 C2 has exhibits a scrubbing noise from the right front brake. It only occurs when the car is cold. Also, if I apply a little pressure to the brake pedal, the noise stops. Then it continues when I release the pedal. The noise will eventually stop after the car warms up.

I bought the car used a few weeks ago. The previous owner said he had recently had the brakes serviced. Compared to my Boxster the brakes feel a little mushy and has more pedal travel before the brakes engage. He replaced the pads with Hawk brake pads. He said they were a little more track oriented.

Anyone got a diagnosis and cure? Thanks.

Probably didn't put in the spacer pads in the pistons between the pads and calipers, and probably didn't bleed the system.
