Key fob wont blink, despite battery change 996
Hey folks, short time owner, short time reader!
Bought my first 911, 996.2 C4S cab with 2 keys. Was using one key fine, then one day it stopped, so I assumed battery and been using other key. Replaced battery today in key one, still no LED flash. Took it out again and tried, flashed once, but not again. Took to here for answers and found some guidance. Went out to the car, took out battery witin range of car and it flashed and unlocked. Started the car all well and good. Went to lock it, nadda, zilch nothing. No light flash or anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

The remote lock/unlock on my crappy VW Bug works every time but not on a Porsche that had a sticker price of $100k. It's a very common and annoying problem. It is likely that the solder points on the chip in the key fob have cracked and are not making good contact.
There is a DIY for this (I think on Renntech). There is a guy on Rennlist who will do it for you for about 30 bucks.
Basically you de-solder and remove the battery. Then apply downward pressure to the chip with a pencil eraser while very briefly touching each leg of the chip with a soldering iron. Then re-solder the battery.

Installing the battery reversed for a few seconds I guess causes a real "reset" of the circuit and has been known to resurrect an otherwise non-functioning -- or goofy functioning -- key module. At least the buttons. The battery and the circuit it powers does not play a role in engine starting.
