LIL RAJA 02-12-2006 07:26 PM

Not neccassarily true...if you've already done a lot to your car and don't want to step up another $30,000 in car note for a car which isn't all that much more impressive than your car the way it's set-up now...then it makes perfect sense. (assume the conversions price is "reasonable")

--- Kevin

...personally, I would do the conversion to the 02+ 996 front end (turbo lights) with a RUF 02+ front bumper (RGT style)....build on the 996 for what it is! I don't like the "basic" 997 front end anyway.

redline C4s 02-12-2006 07:52 PM

i don't even see why you would want to do a conversion like that.
I guess it is personal preference:confused:

LUISGT3 02-12-2006 07:55 PM

Please don't do it. Your 996's will never be the same. (and it will never be a 997) So enjoy it the way it is! :)

gdctus997 02-13-2006 06:17 PM

I have to agree. There is nothing wrong with the look of a 996. Spend your money on performance.

redline C4s 02-13-2006 07:25 PM

yeah exactly. Your car is a 996 and there is nothing wrong with that being it is still a great car.

Wheel Dynamics 02-14-2006 12:23 AM

Keep it as is would be my vote......

Miykl 02-14-2006 09:32 AM

For now I will not be performing the mod, focussing more on performance. As for the leave it alone crowd, I really dig the 997 front end, more b/c it reminds me of the 993 than b/c i'm trying to make my 996 look like a 997. I'm not trying to make my car a 997, and as for losing $$ on the investment, I have no intention of selling or trading "up" anytime in the near future. This is going to be "my Porsche" for quite awhile.

To address the 02 facelift, it's near the same cost for not enough change IMO. Plus, I could apply the same aguements as those above. Why not be happy with the pre 02 look?? I never see anyone dissing the 02 facelift. ....yes, I am aware of the reduced drag and lift associated with the 02 facelift.

Bondo special

Wheel Dynamics 02-15-2006 04:32 PM

No trim on the pre 01 to the -02 unless you're fitting a Turbo front bumper then you'll have a little to shave but not a big deal.

So I WOULD call it a bolt on affair.....

Although that 997 aero kit is visually appealing

Mother 02-15-2006 11:15 PM

I say if you are going to keep the car then do what pleases you! Take a look at this kit from france.
Check the "sport look" for the 996,

http://www.jacquemond.com/designbyjacquemond.htm

and enjoy the experience, "I truley beleve that if you can't find the car you like you have to build it yourself." If I'm not mistaken I think that's a quote from the guy that built the porsche.

GT3Scott 02-16-2006 09:59 AM

If I had a 997 I would gladly trade you the front end! I find the 997 to be very unattractive compared to the 996. It's all personal preference but it will be interesting to see the prices on these cars in 10 years... I wouldnt be surprised if the 996 prices eventually float higher than the 997's.

Miykl, in few weeks my car will be going to body shop to be converted to 997 TT. I will post the pictures when it’s done. But if you are considering doing front facelift this is how it should be done IMO.
Together with Dan from Speed Gallery we made 997 fenders that fit on 996 front (not as ease as I thought at the beginning). This kit is different that jacqmond’s kit that actually has 996 fenders with 997 headlights and you can use them only with his front bumper.
With our 997 fenders you need to use OEM 997 hood so that all the lines are exactly as on 997 front. This way you can choose any bumper that is available for 997 (factory of aftermarket) and your 996 front will look exactly like 997.

neil.schneider 02-16-2006 07:03 PM

NICE JOB!!. From the pic it looks perfect.

CayenneS2083 02-16-2006 08:29 PM

If I were to do a conversion, which I wouldn't because I think it takes away from the car, it becomes like a frankenstein. I would do the carrera gt front headlights. I saw it somewhere on 6 speed, its pretty cool and really different.

cdaniels 02-21-2006 09:38 PM

I personally think the 996 is more attractive than the 997...beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...spend your money on performance mods....

karlooz 02-22-2006 10:10 AM

that's sweet! it's great that one can use the oem bumper. i am assuming the fenders are composite, right? are you rear TT flares steel or composite?

I think the roof scoope may be a little over the hill...they can definitely strike that......but otherwise you're on your own on this one. I think this 996 looks absolutely bad a$$! :D

MishaDesigns 02-23-2006 03:55 PM

Carlos, yes fenders are composite and rear quarter panels will be OEM steel.
