Not neccassarily true...if you've already done a lot to your car and don't want to step up another $30,000 in car note for a car which isn't all that much more impressive than your car the way it's set-up now...then it makes perfect sense. (assume the conversions price is "reasonable")

--- Kevin

...personally, I would do the conversion to the 02+ 996 front end (turbo lights) with a RUF 02+ front bumper (RGT style)....build on the 996 for what it is! I don't like the "basic" 997 front end anyway.

i don't even see why you would want to do a conversion like that.
I guess it is personal preference

Please don't do it. Your 996's will never be the same. (and it will never be a 997) So enjoy it the way it is!

gdctus997 is infamous around these parts
I have to agree. There is nothing wrong with the look of a 996. Spend your money on performance.

yeah exactly. Your car is a 996 and there is nothing wrong with that being it is still a great car.

For now I will not be performing the mod, focussing more on performance. As for the leave it alone crowd, I really dig the 997 front end, more b/c it reminds me of the 993 than b/c i'm trying to make my 996 look like a 997. I'm not trying to make my car a 997, and as for losing $$ on the investment, I have no intention of selling or trading "up" anytime in the near future. This is going to be "my Porsche" for quite awhile.

To address the 02 facelift, it's near the same cost for not enough change IMO. Plus, I could apply the same aguements as those above. Why not be happy with the pre 02 look?? I never see anyone dissing the 02 facelift. ....yes, I am aware of the reduced drag and lift associated with the 02 facelift.

No trim on the pre 01 to the -02 unless you're fitting a Turbo front bumper then you'll have a little to shave but not a big deal.

So I WOULD call it a bolt on affair.....

I say if you are going to keep the car then do what pleases you! Take a look at this kit from france.
Check the "sport look" for the 996,

http://www.jacquemond.com/designbyjacquemond.htm

and enjoy the experience, "I truley beleve that if you can't find the car you like you have to build it yourself." If I'm not mistaken I think that's a quote from the guy that built the porsche.

If I had a 997 I would gladly trade you the front end! I find the 997 to be very unattractive compared to the 996. It's all personal preference but it will be interesting to see the prices on these cars in 10 years... I wouldnt be surprised if the 996 prices eventually float higher than the 997's.
