How to Remove Navigation CD/DVD Drive in Glove Box?

Anyone done this/know how to remove? @Johnny Hotspur GT I see a couple of your videos on YouTube if you're around for input.

I replaced my OE 2006 head unit with one apparently from a newer model (2010/2011 - part# 3W0035008J).

Appears I need to replace the Navigation Drive in the glovebox to match the newer head unit - is there a certain part# I need to acquire?

Do I need to purchase any other newer year modules, etc to make this work?

What CD/DVD year for the maps will work?

Vehicle is 2006 Flying Spur

Thank you

Hello @mrc00l88 ,
I have to get ready for a meeting, so I may be able to get the DVD NAV disc drive part number later, it may be in my rebuild thread here, not sure.

But yes, if you purchased a 2009 / 2010 head unit, then you need to swap out the 2006 CD Disc NAV drive for the 2010 DVD NAV Disc drive as shown in my videos.

I'll have to check later for the last GEN 1 DVD Disc version, iirc, it was a 2015 BMW set.

EDIT: Be sure that the 2010 head unit is not a NAIM for Bentley head unit, or you will be looking for a NAIM for Bentley Amplifier along with a lot of rewiring of the pin-outs of said amp to the speakers, along with power supply for the NAIM amplifier.

Johnny

Johnny, I believe it is a NAIM unit, not entirely sure how to tell (I see a NAIM option in the audio settings, along with a bunch of other sound options, balanced, enhanced, etc).

I still got sound on a quick test, or will I not have any bass, etc - what shouldn't/wouldn't work without the NAIM Amplifier?

That being said, do you know up to what year head units are compatible with the existing 2006 CD Disc Nav Drive?

Or what year head units are not NAIM (if that's going to cause other issues - this way I could just replace the Nav Drive)?

I gather I'm going to have to source another head unit - from your rebuild do you happen to have one in good shape?

Good luck with your meeting. Cheers

Edit: FYI, I tried playing some music, the bass and such appear to function as they should. Haven't been in/around the car much, so not sure if its working 100% correctly, maybe its not as loud, etc? I have the audio on the NAIM setting (it actually sounds the best vs the other options - screenshot attached for what I'm looking at). Perhaps the later year head units are all just set up to utilize NAIM, and the additional Amplifier, etc are optional?

Edit 2: Was able to remove the Navigation Drive from the glove box, part# that came with the car is 3W0919887A, couldn't find the new part# searching the forums if you're able to dig up the one you used, I'm thinking 3W0919887Q variation?
