Complete 4.0L motor package for ALL 996's by 9ff !!! :-))
Hey guys,
Finally, after a long and hard search...here is one of the baddest power options I've found for our cars. A complete built, streetable, reliable and warrantied 4.0L stroker package with REAL dry sump engineered into it* This motor can be bolted into ALL 996 N/A generation cars (99-04)...enjoy! :) --- Kevin D. PS: ...I'm still checking with the company on the price but I'm sure it's one of those "if you have to ask you can't afford it things." This motor/stroker dropped into a light 996 C2 should be faster than the new 997 GT3 !! (which has a 3.6L...i.e. less torque and will most assuredly be a lil' heavier to boot). Think about what kind of racer you could make your 996 be with this motor... :D The new package/motor ---> http://shop.eurocarboutique.com/9ff_...1_P380C170.cfm |
After clicking buy now I get this:
FM 96-1.38 4.0L Super Sport Motor 415+ HP $32,375.00 But on the good side it is the same price as the 3.8L 375hp motor.... |

How much for the tranny & clutch upgrade........hilarious
|
wow... $32k is pretty steep. Used 99's are going for that price these days! :)
|
a used 99 has a craptacular (my buds dyno'd 201hp!!) 3.4L. Speed costs money. A 420HP 4.0L 8500 rpm engine in ANY 996 >>>>> any 997 IMO. I see the same thing in the computer world. PPl always want to compare apples to oranges..."dude, those macs are soooo overpriced. I can get you this dell w/ 128mb ram for $500."
Speaking of value...this seems better at $32k than a "25HP powerkit" from porsche for $17k. I'll tell you what would be crazy (dare i say it). Is one of these in a cayman or boxster...the car that porsche REFUSED to build. |
415hp at the crank would be what at the rear wheels....?
You could take a $30,000 996 & add a SC ~$12,000 installed and maybe have 320-350rwhp & have $20,000 left for more fun stuff. Of course these HP figures are just speculation on my part. - Cam of course we still dont know if $32,000 buys you the 415hp or 375hp motor. |
...I agree with Qirex, what you are buying here is "quality & speed" (not to mention awesome engineering)...those things combined cost a lot of money no matter how you cut it. Engineering a dry-sump ~420HP 8500rpm 4.0L race motor for the street that can be dropped in a C2 would make your 996 faster than anything short of perhaps a GT2....in a 8500RPM N/A package with much better sound effects to boot. Instantanious throttle response and 4.0L-torque throughout the powerband as if porsche themselves built it that way. (A 4.0L race motor for the street in a 2960lb platform*) If you want THAT experience done right, ~$32K is what'll it will take. (clutch included) Yes, you can buy a TPC or EVO blower and make the same HP rating (or more)...but you're not buying a new motor, the same quality, engineering, or experience (you can't compare apples and oranges)...this complete 9ff stroker/race motor will make a 996 essentially a new car rather than just being "another mod." :)

All tho I think its great someone had finally done something like this, but I am doing heads cam intake and a charger for under 20 K and it will make 400 HP.Maybe this is good for someone that doesnt want a charger

No matter how you S/C your car, the area under the torque curve will never get to what a tuned 4.0 could do. Only a turbo or a S/C with a CVT to give you good torque at low RPM. Do head work, cams, and S/C on a 3.6L C2, might as well get a TT. The money will be close with a overall package designed for that much power. But if you go with a fully built engine upgrade, that's another story.

Anyone know how much a 996 GT3 engine would cost? Crate or Used.
A TT engine is about $18k used which would give you 400 hp already. |
I thought about doing a turbo motor, and after looking into it , its not worth it.It will cost more to do the turbo motor swap then the 4.0. I like the idea of how I am going. I have a new TT on order I dont want 2 turbo carshilarious

(when you actually factor in the mods it will take on a TT to match a head/cams and SC'ed C2's acceleration, it's no longer as "cost effective" as people insenuate going to the already ~$18K more expensive platform.) --- Kevin ...I will wholehearted agree with you however that the 4.0L engine package represents the best and most effective conversion that money (a lot of it) can buy. That abviously the one I would shoot for if money was NO object :D |
