I am not asking which would be better. I read someone elses post, and surely the P-car guys all advised the Porsche!

The only reason I would consider the M3 is because of the updated interior. I track my car, drive spiritedly, and make projects out of them. Both cars are performers (with the edge to the Porsche), but it's also about how fun they are to drive. I am coming from an S2000 which is the most fun car I have ever driven (including SL65 AMG, 996TT, 997S, Z8, M3s, etc etc).

But like I said, the only thing keeping me from the 01 Carrera is the interior.
I wish this forum had some gallery. Maybe it does, I just can't find it.
Please post pictures of your interiors!
Stock, optioned-out, customized, whatever!! I would prefer Black leather, but any color would be fine!! The only pictures I can find are on eBay ads and they are all poor quality pictures of a stock interior.

Thanks a lot!
Are you driving the car or the interior? The M3 has a nice interior, but after awhile you will hear creaking, little squeeks, and much more. A lot of the junk under the panels make these noises. 3 Piece steering wheel all the way.

Yeah, for sure... But on the other end of the spectrum (of mixing luxury and sport) is a CLK55 AMG with no squeeks. Just as fast, but can't handle for ***** and is only an automatic. The M3 is a nice compromise, I must say. Sure the overall build quality and refinement is below both the AMG and the Porsche, but as is the price tag.
I would take the 01 C2 Aero over the others in a HEART BEAT. I just hope I can afford it... And you're right, it does need a 3 spoke wheel (and sport seats, hehe).
Thanks for the wonderful pictures! This car will not be a cheap project.

The M3 is a much better track car the 996 suffers badly from oil starvation issues...not just because I have an M3 I had a 2000 and a 2003 99 as well...also the interior of the M3 is made better the 2000 had the nasty non leather interior and my 2003 had leather big diff IMHO.

Well I am 18, moving up from a project S2000 finally into my "dream" car. So surely the car will put me into a bind temporarily. But I am paying in cash, so it just means going without other things until I acquire the car, or waiting longer to get it.
So the cost of the car is workable, but things like insurance (probably equal among them all), cost to maintain, and the cost to upgrade parts are factors.

The leather in the M is an option. Through 2006, they came with fabric inserts and full leather was another $1k or so. But most have that option. It's included in the Premium Package as well.
Thanks again for the comments and pictures!
