Smile My 996 film!

Hi all,

Here’s a little film I did about buying my 996 - what I paid, what it’s like. Enjoy (I hope)!

I enjoyed watching your video Jay. My car is an 01 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with tiptronic. I love it. It is the same color as yours, Arctic silver. I bought mine from a friend about a year ago for a little less money than what you paid. As a bonus mine came with a detachable hard top and two sets of rims and tires. I recently had the IMS bearing and rear main seal replaced for peace of mind.
Happy Motoring--

God save Canadians! Good Queen-fearing people!

Thanks a lot for the comment, Rick. How do you get on with the tiptronic?

Thanks for posting that Jay - Appreciate your contributions.
I felt the same way about who to buy from when buying mine as I was finding terrible cars at the random dealers and was very excited to buy one from a Porsche dealer in SC. I was super disappointed when after looking at it, I found several issues with it - none of which were deal breakers, but all together was too much for the fact they claimed it passed their CPO inspections. Either way I drove 5 hrs back home with out being able to purchase it bc they wanted me to pay full price and accept the broken aspects of the car.
Fortunately 3 weeks later I found a private seller who had owned his for 16 years and had tons of extras he had accumulated with it, I bought it for almost $10k less and am a firm believer time after time that private party with proper inspections and maintenance records is worth the wait.

Also, my car came with one of these (which oddly enough was stored in the frunk), I keep it behind the driver seat and hope that it will alleviate any dead battery can’t open hood issues.

I’m glad you’re enjoying my drivel! You must be my other subscriber! Lol!

As a foreigner to this wonderful country, I find it very hard to know what to do when buying a car from distance. When I lived in the South East of the UK, it was easy because I could find what I was looking for within a fairly easy drive (3-4 hours there and back) but here if you are looking for something really good then it can be 2,000 miles away or more! I do much agree with you that if you can find a guy who has poured love into a car and had receipts to prove it, that is absolutely the way to go. In my case, I found my car and it happened to be with a dealer which encouraged me to press forward with it. I haven’t been disappointed either. It’s just as they described it and, in my short ownership, has been great!

Jay- I love the tiptronic. I just turned 70 and a manual transmission doesn't excite me much. When I want to feel like a kid again I put the shifter in manual and roar through the gears by using the buttons. For me it is the best of both worlds.
