996 Recaro seat
996 Recaro seat
Hi all,
I have a 2002 996 turbo. It has the standard seats. I’ve seen a GT2/3 Porsche Recaro bucket seat in the correct leather colour for sale which I’d use as the drivers seat and retain the standard passenger seat. Problem is the Recaro seat is the passenger seat - can the seat belt buckle be swapped to the other side so the seat can be used as a driver’s seat? Are the seat mounts ‘sided’?
thanks,
Matt

OP...if you're still around, this depends on what you are referring to as a "GT2/3 Porsche Recaro bucket seat".
If you mean the 996 Euro GT3 seats, sometimes referred to as "aliens", then yes the bucket seat itself can be either passenger or driver as the seat belt receiver bolts to the bucket seat riser. The seat rails are the same seat rails used for all 996 seats and there is a passenger side and driver side version which only changes the location of the slider handle. The seat rails attach to the seat with two uprights which the seat belt receiver attaches to. Be aware that if the Euro GT3 seat is missing either the uprights or the small spacer blocks that the seat belt receiver attaches to, those items are quite expensive if you need to buy them from Porsche.
If you are talking about 996 Sport seats...the normal upholstered seats with the wings at the shoulders...then the challenge you will run into is that the electronic controls will be on the inside (trans tunnel) side of the seat if you swap a driver to a passenger or vice-versa.
