So my Dad found out that his C4S needs a new clutch. It's got about 35K miles on it. $tealer says $1700 for parts and labor.

Just wondering whether there is anything else we should have done, upgraded, or otherwise modified while we're having the new clutch put in? Lightweight flywheel, for instance? Anything?

P.S. No, my Dad hasn't been launching it; and no, I haven't launched it either. We suspect the prior owner must have launched it a few times.

 

possibly a rear main seal. those are notorious for going bad

 

lighten flywheel makes a huge difference, but I would buy the parts from Sunset Porsche in Oregon and take to another shop besides the dealer for the labor. Get the RMS done at the same time though

what are your symotoms slippage @ 5& 6k with that burning smell not going into gear well ; imho 35k is very low for a new clutch sounds like the former owner abused it or needed driving school or both

 

Only 35K miles on a clutch? Somebody was either doing burnouts a lot with it or else doesn't know how to shift very well! I've heard of more than a few cases of clutches making it over 100K in these cars.

 

well that's certainly good to know -- that the clutch should last to almost or above 100K miles if driven nicely.
