I am sure when it comes out we will all want one - you'll see - I said the same thing about the 996 when I saw it at first

I agree, new designs take time to grow on people and on some people it will never grow on...

But for now it's a Porsche Beetle! to me....

lol, ***** ***** *****. every new model receives this treatment, and then after we all buy it, we talk about how much better it is than the one it replaced. i'm sure porsche justifiably laughs and just keeps kicking out ever better looking and performing cars.

Ben i have to agree with ya man - I did the same thing when the 996 came out - it is funny though - I will look at a 993 i notice these days faster than a 996 -

I hated the 996 so much when it came out I bought a leftover 98 993 cab - broke down on me second day of ownership - I traded it back to the dealer for a white 996 cab in 1999 and never looked back once I really got on it -now I ahve been through 4 996's to date

Something about a polar silver 993 cab with 18's though- looks good!

same here, but i soon realized the 996 was the better car and bought the 996 6 months later. the differences between the two cabs was much greater than the differences in the coupes.

in truth i actually liked the 996 over the 993..ok i admit please noflames, i loved the 996 more after the redesign in 02, i absolutely love the turbo headlights...

but hey it may grow on me...

i remember hating the 96 e class when it first came out and my brother bought it.. but i eventually began to like it too...

Same here. I never like Porsche until the 996. If they go back to the gay bug headlight and bumper lights. I'll definitely trade in my Porsche for a Lambo, Ferrari or even HSC. I don't care if the new 997 will outperform any other cars on the street. If its fugly, then I won't have it in my garage.

From the looks of the 997 I will not be in the market for a new car.. There is not enough change for me to eat the loss on my current turbo.

The only way I would trade out of my current car is if the performance difference made it attractive.

I don't quite like the new look ...@_@
it may look good once it's released... but... so far it looks like a combo of VW beetle + Porsche 993 + Audi TT = New 997

I guess 998 will be my next car... but definetely not 997...

However, rumours that the 997 will run the big 4x4's V8 are premature: that won't happen until the 998 generation, not due for a couple of years. To tide us over, the flat sixes hanging out over the back axle yield more grunt: today's 3.6-litre engine is extended to 3.8 litres, to generate around 340bhp, (up 20bhp).

20 bhp How lame is that?

However, if the V8 does indeed come to pass, how 'bout 400 or so bhp and F-car engine and exhaust note? Sign me up now.

Remember guys, from all points the 997 is supposed to be a REFRESH of the 996, NOT a redesigned or new model (again, in the eyes of a dealer, it's a new model meaning they will not discount it initially).

My take is that it is a new fascia front/rear, a few more hp, but not a radical design change. I see this as good. Remember the SL? Folks who bought an SL the year before the major redesign got screwed royally, enough that MB sent them all discounts of 10K or so toward a new one if they wanted. That was a major redesign/new model, not a refresh.

I kind of prefer the refresh approach, assuming things get better. I'm not a big fan of the bug eyed look on these shots, but I have suspicions that the eyes of the new 997 won't be quite this round.

And I like the current '04 C4S Cab. I think it's a great time to get a model like that, with the expectation that it won't have a redesigned replacement right away either.

As for 400hp in the base model, I think we might see that a few more years down the road (998). Just speculation. Informed speculation.
