Question Is extended warranty worth it?

Dear Members,
I'm planning to buy a 2002 911 cab, with 12K miles, one owner, no accidents. . .it has a month left on the warranty.

I can buy an extended warranty for 5 years for $2500 from Warrantech (here in Florida).
It does not cover lights, brakes, or the covertible top, but DOES cover major components and A/C, and electrical system.

Do you think this is a reasonable value? Has anyone ever used this type of non-porsche warranty?

I'd appreciate some input

Thanks

David

well, it depends on how deep your pocket is. some people say it's a waste of money. To be, i'm paying for the peace of mind. BTW i bought mine from warranty direct, they call it the "bumper to bumper" warranty, for ~2500, 4 years 50k miles, 0 deductable. i filed a claim for 700 2 months after bought the warranty. Claim is easy, my dealer took care of everything. check out my story https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=46379

I was worried about that too when I bought my car (8700 miles). I did have the RMS fix done just in case under warranty. I have driven the car a lot since mine expired and I have not had any issues. My dealer said it's not worth it. They also mentioned, like ferrari's, garage queens tend to have all of the problems. Just a note, I have one of the least expensive dealers in terms of repair costs, so the west coast guys might consider it.

Yes, I think it's worth the money. Repairs on these cars can be expensive.

I wouldn't buy a used car without a warranty I only buy used quality cars but they are all going to have something that will nickle and dime you to death. So this way you don't care you just repair and move one and enjoy the car

Definitely get at least a warranty that covers drivetrain and electrical - both of which are very expensive to fix.

Be sure to check the fine print.

If it covers all the major components (it probably does) then I think it's a good peace of mind. One repair of something major can easily cost that much.

Definitely worth it. I got a 7yr. 100K Ext. warranty on my 99 Cab. When I went for a 45K check up, they noticed a gasket leak. Without the warranty I could have paid hundreds of dollars. with labor rate going @ about $150/hr. at the dealer.

Just bought a warranty today for my 2002 C4S. Purchased it through Warranty Direct who I believe offers the best deal out there. I'm covered for 4 years/75,000 miles on all major components plus wear and tear, and it cost me just under $2k. Hard to beat for the peace of mind....

Wow. I called them and they wouldn't cover my '01 996(16k miles). The dealership wants ~$4k for an extended warranty.

That's the same ridiculous quote I got from the dealer (who is just acting as a retailer for some other 3rd party vendor). Sorry to hear they won't take 2001's... can't say I understand their logic.
