IMPORTANT!!! Read for Track Drivers
Greetings,
I was just made aware of a very important issue with all 996's. The oil cap is prone to unscrewing itself and falling off. This just happened to my friend's car at Watkins Glen this past weekend. This problem has been documented by Porsche. Many regions are now making hose clamps mandatory for 996 oil caps.

Sounds like someone saw the hose clamp that Porsche Motorsport puts on the cup car oil filler cap. We have close to 300 996's in this area that are tracked a lot and have never had the oil cap fall off. I'm thinking operator error in putting the cap on correctly.
Umm...Why do you think Porsche does that for their cup car? Every car in our region has their oil cap checked before every run. Why would PCA regions make it mandatory if it didn't happen? Why would Porsche mention it to all of their dealers? Why was the 997 cap completely redesigned?
Livenupe...you simply put a clamp around the base of the cap.
