Bumperettes
Bumperettes
Why does Porsche continue to produce cars with the ugly bumperettes? This type of thing went out in the 80's.

And yes, I know it's some sort of US Fed requirement. I am sure that Porsche could design the rear bumper to adhere to these standards, just like every other automaker.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the US the largest export market for Porsche?
Rant off. (I'm going to go rob a 7-11 now so I can buy a euro bumper)

Ugly as they might be, they are there for a purpose.
I accidently bumped a short pole I could not see when backing out of a parking space.
I put a good smudge right on the bumperette.
If I had hit the bumper, it would have cracked the paint job and cost a butt-load to repair!
I was thankful for that little bugger.

Lucky for you the pole was in just the right place to hit the bumperette and not the other 90% of the bumper. What a p.o.s. those things are. Clearly an afterthought, slapped on to sell to the US market. We give them enough money, they should be able to come up with something nicer after 30 years.

Thanks for the comments guys. The whole kit was around 3750 I believe. Fitment is great for aftermarket.
Replacement bumpers come euro style (or at least used to)....so it is the body shop that cuts the holes to accommodate the protruding alluminum bumperette mount brackets.
So.......you, you can either order new OE, or 'fill' existing holes........either route involves removal of the brackets.......that support ettes (that satisfy DOT low speed impact test....and save you the slightly more expensive 'full bumper' repair).
