You can always ask the board at the for sale section if anyone has a set laying around if you wanna save some money. Tires on these cars should be treated like diapers... wear them knowing you'll need another set (i have a new-to-me nephew and I can't believe how fast he goes through diapers!)

 

i have pilot sports on my 03 996....no issues...just did a trip from boston--Montreal--NYC--Boston over the xmas break...It performed grt...no issues what so ever

 

My car is never tracked and I usually drive fairly conservatively so I chose to go with Kumhos. I know that at the track they may not perform on the same level but for daily driving I cannot tell a difference between these and the more expensive Toyos that I previously had on the car.

 

My 2001 C4 came with the Sumitomo tires I choose to leave them on while I replaced the shocks (PSS9) and H&R sway-bars. I can tell you after all this and the replacement of good tires on the car, Pilot Sports, the car is sooooo.. much different that I can say the Sumitomo IMHO are junk! Go with something Porsche recommends you'll be glad you did!
