Actually now Boxster and 996 dont share that many parts.....but when the 996 and 986 were first introduced they HAD to....they were in serious financial trouble. 993 sales were VERY slow and the profits were down. But why should you care if the parts are inexpensive to make for Porsche? The performance of these cars is amazing and all around performance cannot be beat....just because it cost more to make then, doesnt make it better....I wouldnt put a 993 engine in my car if you paid me....

Yeah, I know why it was done, but it's still a sticking point for me. By the way, i'm not saying that the air-cooled engine is better, just that it seems that Porsche used to care more about quality than absolute maximum profit. I guess that's why they where near bankrupcy eh?

just get over this mental block/inferiority complex that you have otherwise you will never appreciate what you have and will eat at you. actually just get rid of whatever porsche you have and be done with it.

really i am just poking fun at you, tongue in cheek. really, who cares if it shares the same engine design with the boxster (which is the car that pulled porsche out of financial hardship). the m96 engine wasn't purely designed for the boxster then used in the 996. it was built with the intent to use the same parts in the 996 and 986. again, who cares if it works.

yup...exactly.....and why do you care if parts are used in a boxster? ALL auto makers share parts....do you think the guy in the Lambo cares that Audi TT parts are used in his car? or the guy in the Mercedes care that Chrysler parts are in his AMG? Its a car, enjoy it....If Porsche had used teh same engine design in al 996 cars, there would be no performance difference....so why care? Oh except replacements would cost 3x as much.
