Help: CEL
I have a 99 C2 with aftermarket intake and Fabspeed exhaust. I bought it used and these mods were already installed. The intake has no markings on it and the car records don't show the intake brand. The car has about 58K miles and I have driven the car about 12K miles with no problems since purchase, however, I had a problem this a.m.
Cranked up my car this a.m. to go to work and the following happened:
Car cranked but ran very roughly.
So I turned car off and restarted, this time it still ran roughly and when throttle was applied there was a lot of exhaust smoke.
The car idled better, so I pulled from my driveway and then the car began to miss and the CEL came on.
Any ideas? MAF?
Can I go to anyone that has a code reader to get CEL codes (i.e. Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.)?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Could be many things. It would be nice to see what the code is. Short of that, do any or all of the following:
Did the problem start after filling the tank? Was it SHELL gas? Bad gas can cause the car to run rich and smoke. Check the connection to the MAF. Remove cable and reinstall. Remove MAF and clean with electronic cleaner or other non residue spray clener. Remove filter housing and clean throttlebody with carb cleaner. Throw in a bottle of injector cleaner into the gas tank. Does your air pump turn on when you first start the engine cold? It should run for about a minute or so after starting. It is located pn the left side of the engine compartment near the cooant tank.
You can go to any Autozone to get your CEL codes read for free.

Update:
Just tried the car a little while ago. Cranked up and ran perfectly. CEL was illuminated but went out after a couple of miles. Maybe it was bad gas.
By the way, are the fault codes stored after CEL is reset?
