Subaru WRX VS. 996

Yes, quite often less money can be more fun, but your "proof statement", (the quote from Excellence's Top ten drivers Porsches) does not support your comment.
The overall concensus of the reviewers has 5 of the Porsches on sale right now as the top ten drivers' cars. They are the 996 C4S, 996tt, 996 GT3, Boxster/S, and the antithesis of "less money more fun" the Carrera GT which is #1 on all the reviewers lists.
So for all the leather and non-performance goodies that you get (pay for) on a current day p-car, the modern generation of Porsches are great fun and among the best of the best (according to those who ought to know).
You also failed to mention that the car that David Colman loves most dearly is the "VW-Porsche 914" Sorry, been there and owned one. Sure rather have my C4S.
BTW, Porsche has not "abandoned the value segment" - it has never been there.

one minor detail, tho'...he specifically mentions the 914-6, which can be a pretty damn good car in it's own right...
and I don't think the 993 3.8 RS I mentioned really falls into the "value segment" either, but I have no doubt about it's "fun factor"!...
"value" is by definition a matter of relativity, of course, but I do believe Porsche was better in days gone by with at least attempting giving enthusiasts on a budget something to choose from....there were one or two models of the 914 worth having, and the 944 and 968 had models that were quite satisfying for a reasonable amount of dosh...

with my 996, i love to hang the tail out and how rewarding it is when you get it just right around the corners. how does the EVO fair in comparison. which pcar do you own?

as far as what I like about the Evo so much, you already hit it on the head....fast, raw, go-kart like performance at any halfway sane speed, and it changes direction like an antelope with a cheetah about 20-feet behind it...all the "contact points" are spot-on, the Momo wheel, the Recaro seats, the shifter, the dead pedal, and the tires, and I love it's nervousness and precise steering...
the one thing that makes it frustrating at times is the awd...I love it for the grip and the overall balance, and the car is really easy to 4-wheel drift off an apex (and I'm NOT talking about the smokey drifts that are all the rage, I'm talking nice, controllable 4-wheel drifts off the apex to the outside of a turn), but I do occasionally miss the easier (and fun!) rear-wheel drive throttle steering ability that you mention with your 996...
and my Evo does NOT squeak and rattle as some have mentioned...
forgot to answer your other question...we currently have an '89 928 S4, total of 15,000 miles since new...but I've driven a few other Porsches as well...

Can it pull a 996? I really don't care....I'm having too much fun regardless.
We all just need to understand the common bonds that bring us to places like this in the first place. Life is too short to give yourself heartburn over someone else's perceptions. [end of colateralgees quote]
What Porsche do you have? well that doesnt matter, the fact of the matter is my Bro had a 911 Turbo with the K29 turbo big *** intercooler, stronger waiste gate spring, guess what, Toasted him with my Little clown car evo haha, all i have done is fuel managment, exhaust, boost control, so you tell me bout my subs and intake huh? oh ya and my car gos into Quantum racing in a few days and is getting an engine that even the Carrera GT cant keep up with so let me know when you get a car worth racing cool? [snipped for brevity]
Thanks

http://www.track-challenge.com/main_e.asp
Use this site for your first reference and then go google the others.
The EVO and the STi DO NOT compete with 911's.
Most WRX and EVO drivers seem to think that 1/4 mile rules the world. If that's the case, buy a Vette, because most slightly modded vettes will hand all of us our *** in the 1/4 mile (including my Twin Turbo).
Come on Porsche folks, it's more than just style, it IS in fact performance, and they don't have it. That's why you paid more money for your cars. It is for me anyway.
I've tracked my C2 and my Turbo with many EVO's and a couple of STi's and none of held their own.

when the Evo FQ 300 and 330 get stateside (hopefully!), expect a whole 'nother discussion....

They're not stateside, but what times are they pulling around Nurburgring?
(I guess I can Google it, but whatever)

the 'Ring is probably much more suited to a good 911 (or Turbo Cayenne, for that matter!) than an Evo or STi, I'd imagine...
never been on it myself, but have seen a few films and have some "acquaintances" in the U.K. who go every year with their 928's...same bunch also does the Isle of Man every year
Wow! What an impassioned thread. And when the dust settles, the clueless remain clueless. Do you know what gives me nearly as much joy as snapping off a flawless 5-4-3 downshift (that seldom happens, hence the joy)? I get a kick reading rants from condescending, ignorant, self-righteous writers who get it wrong while blasting an "uneducated, zit-faced moron."
Example 1) MLA911 writes: "...Your a perfect example..." MLA911, suggestion: "you're" would probably work better in this situation. Moreover, when attempting to wax eloquence, avoid using abbreviations.
Example 2) Noel writes: "It is the people with the education that hold all the money..." Not only does that statement smack of pomposity, that statement should read: "It is the people with the education 'who' hold all the money..."
Word skills were not stressed in my school, nor were they practiced in my indigent household; therefore, feel free to correct any grammatical errors as you see fit. As I wrote above, I will get a kick out of it, gentlemen.

The Econo Rocket is a great value. We all agree. It is not to be compared to a luxury class sports car! WHY??? because they have different expectations and you pay the price.
Can we let this thread R.I.P. !
BTW Thanks for the grammar lesson... I hope this is your first and last post on this board because we ain't needin' yo **** arounds here aiight! ALL OF US ARE IMPRESSED! now let it be!

Bump.
Evo's and Subbies suck. Porsches rule. "Your" gay bogie. lol
Let's fight dammit!
That was all for you Sandoval.
I have come to SILENCE ALL THOSE WHO DOUBT
Watch this video ESPECIALLY THE LAST PART.
Evo and Sti stock form (by stock I mean FACTORY modified aka production car) kills most Porsches. EVO is slower on track only behind the super expensive super car ZONDA.
http://www.sparco.co.il/sti2004_v_evo8.avi
EVO IS 2nd FASTEST OUT OF ALL THE CARS TESTED.
BTW, there is also another video where both STI and Evo kills the new V8 AUDI S4. Its not all about displacement. You need a balance of speed, handling etc. Ill let real videos do the talking. None of this I know it is blah blah bs. Real videos speak louder than words.

since you were talking about factory modified cars i just had to bring it up
. the 996TT had their previous fastest wet lap ever with the new gt3 test beating the TT. imagine the thorough trouncing the gt3 and the TT would give the EVO8 IN THE DRY!gt3 - 1:27.2 (wet track)
EVO8 - 1:28.9 (dry track)
996TT - 1:31.0 (wet track)
regarding the TopGear video sti vs. EVO8 vs. S4 v8, yes the EVO8 handed them their a$$es but to be fair the S4 did pull away from the subbie.
man, NO DOUBT the evo8 has alot of performance and is cheap as hell in price and looks :P (compared to porsche). being previously 3rd on TopGear's dry track all time list - that's no small feat! but let's just get a few things straight

!!!MAN I WISH WE HAD THESE COOL BBC PROGS LIKE TOPGEAR RATHER THAN ALL NASCAR SPEEDTV CRAP(USED TO BE GOOD)!!!

There is just no use comparing a crappy cheap EVO/STI to a Porsche. Please go to the Dodge Neon message boards and compare your rice rockets to SRT-4s or other similar crap.
