Question Sticky clutch on 2000 996

I have a 2000 996 (16000 miles)with what can be described at a sticky clutch. When I do a quick shift the clutch will remain depressed at the bottom for a split second after removing my foot from it. In other words the clutch will not spring back as quickly as it should or follow my foot up. I am releasing the clutch not letting my foot slip off of the side. I am not power-shifting or doing anything stupid just quickly releasing clutch with foot. Could I have contaminated fluid? Any thoughts???

I had the same symptoms at one stage...

It turned out that the floor mat was catching on the clutch pedal when depressed and as the pedal was being released it would try and lift a corner of the floor mat as well which added some drag to the pedal's motion.

I just pulled the mat slightly further towards the seat and it solved the problem.

Steve,
It could be contaminated fluid (has it been changed since new?) It could be a failing slave or master cylinder or it could be the pedal assembly/return spring needs lubrication. Porsche also has issued a number of TSBs related to this such as this one: TSB Sticking Clutch . I would change the fluid/bleed the system (including the brakes, the clutch and brakes share the same reservoir) and if this didn't help would see the dealer.
