Bypass Pipe reality
Bypass Pipe reality
Gang
Well I am here to tell you that the Bypass pipes are really not a daily use item.
I am having a custom exhaust made for my 99 C2. It was not complete today and I decided to just take the car home without the mufflers (i.e. Bypass pipe).
I consider myself a sound nut. I love the cool sound of a free flow exhaust on a car.
But this was excessive. Don't get me wrong it sounded great but it was too much. I had a police officer give me a nasty look and I didn't even "get on it". I am sure that if I had pushed it he would have pulled me over.
The car had plenty of power and zoomed up thru the RPMs. It would be PERFECT for the track.
I would have to say they are unusable anywhere where you get the sound reflected (i.e. downtown etc.)
Just my .02

I think that it's not for everyone and "reality" is very subjective. It's good to have an opportunity to try something out.
I've been by plenty of police officers, no problems yet (knock on wood) and I've even received a few smiles from them. If we drive sane, we aren't going to be subjected to being pinpointed. I think Bypass or no bypass, there are some law enforcement officers out there that are just waiting for us to muck up so they can nab us for something.

I had my PSE installed yesterday with the "on/off" switch, and it sounds awsome. I leave to work early in the morning and am switching it off so as not to wake the sleeping neighbors. I can imagine, based on the loudness my muffeled sound, that a bypass would be excessive.
