Question '99 996 alarm question

Just added a '99 996 coupe to the collection - impressed with the car so far but have a question about the alarm set up. When I lock the car with the remote key..the doors lock and then it takes about 20 - 30 seconds for the horn to quickly beep twice. Now on my '97 993 when this happens it's telling me that something is open. But it also doesn't take that long to beep. Any suggestions? I've checked everything...all doors are closed, rear front hood etc... I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I hope I don't have an electrical gremlin.
Help??
Jim

SOMETHING IS WRONG with your alarm. If the system arms and you get a beep, it means you have an area unprotected.

Primary culprit is the center console storage lid not locked down tight. Check it and see.

Otherwise see a dealer who might be able to find the fault. When you arm it, all you should get is blink from the lights, no horn.

that's what I figured cause that's the way my '97 993 is. But I'm worried that I might be chasing a "gremlin". I'll check the center console storage but I'm pretty sure it's closed. I hate to go to the dealer and pay them to hunt down an electrical issue...could take a long time and cost some $'s.

I'll see what I can find. Thanks

I agree...my guess would be the center console not closed all the way. Try locking up the car with top up but a window down.Lock the car. Wait a minute, now open. Does alarm go off?

this is happening on the '99 coupe. But I did do a test and set the alarm and locked it with the key remote while a door was still open....the horn only sounded once - not twice. So it did change with deliberately leaving a door open. Could there be a chance that the alarm configuration on this car is different than normal??? I know my cab only beeps the horn when something is open. But this one seems to beep twice when everything is closed and beep once when something is open.
More tests to come...I'll let cha know if I find anything. I still wonder if anyone has had a similar situation on a '99 coupe.
Jim
